What is Partners in Policymaking?

Partners in Policymaking (Partners) is a nationally recognized leadership training and civic engagement program designed specifically for self-advocates (21+), and parents of school-aged children with disabilities. It isn't just another training program — it's a catalyst for real systems change in our communities.

Participants dive deep into important disability rights topics including:

  • History of the Disability Rights Movement
  • Person-Centered Thinking
  • Community Organizing
  • Independent Living
  • Inclusive Education
  • Supported Employment
  • Assistive Technology
  • Legislative Process and Strategy

Who Should Apply?

The free 8-month Partners program is perfect for:

  • Self-advocates ready to amplify their fight for rights
  • Parents of children with disabilities who want to create lasting change
  • Adult siblings passionate about disability rights and community leadership
  • People ready to become catalysts for systems change and civic engagement

Why This Matters

After spending one weekend a month with us for eight months, you will be equipped with the knowledge, skills, and network to make real change in your local community and in Oregon. Past participants have gone on to influence policy, serve as elected leaders, transform educational practices, and create more inclusive communities across Oregon.

Don't let this opportunity pass you by! Apply now >

Feel free to reach out to me via email at partners@droregon.org to learn more about what this program could mean for you. And please don’t wait! The September 5th deadline is quickly approaching, and your leadership is needed!

Sincerely,
